The Dark Tower (2017)

Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), the last Gunslinger, is locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim (Matthew McConaughey), also known as the Man in Black. The Gunslinger must prevent the Man in Black from toppling the Dark Tower, the key that holds the universe together. With the fate of worlds at stake, two men collide in the ultimate battle between good and evil.

Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’ hits theaters August 4th.

Untitled from A24 (2017)

I have no idea what this trailer is, but I am very intrigued. Also I happen to be a sucker for the mystery box, so this mysterious trailer has that going for it. A24 is a company that is standing atop the film distribution market as maybe the very best working today, and for them to tease us with such strangeness is definitely something we should all sit up and take notice of.

For those of you wondering what I am talking about, A24 is the company that brought us Moonlight and The Lobster (once which will probably take home at least several Oscars in a month’s time.) but more importantly for us Morbidites is that this the company that brought us TUSK (I don’t care how bad this film is, it’s still great.), THE GREEN ROOM (possibly my favorite film of the year. RIP Anton Yelchin and thank you Patrick Stewart for being so amazingly despicable) and THE WITCH (one of my other favorite films of the year, what a trip!).

A24 will also be releasing what is almost guaranteed to be my favorite film of the year, FREE FIRE—the next film from visionary director Ben Wheatley.

Legendary Reveals Godzilla & Pacific Rim Sequel Titles

A recent press release from Legendary Entertainment has revealed the titles for their Pacific Rim and Godzilla sequels!

“Best known for his work as Executive Producer on such films as Warner Bros’ The Judge and Watchmen, as well as the recently released Jack Reacher: Never Go Back from Paramount, Gains’ responsibilities will include overseeing production of Legendary’s feature film slate including such highly anticipated projects as Pacific Rim: Uprising, Pokemon’s Detective Pikachu and Godzilla: King of Monsters. Gains will also work closely with the post-production team insuring that the filmmaker’s vision remains intact through production to final distribution.”

As a huge fan of Godzilla, giant mechs and Kaijus in general, i’m exceptionally psyched for both of these movies. Pacific Rim: Uprising hits theaters February 23rd, 2018 and Godzilla: King of Monsters attacks the following year on March 22nd, 2019.

Legendary’s next film Kong: Skull Island (which is a prequel to their 2014 Godzilla) will be in theaters on March 10th, 2017.
